Geographical indication is an indication that identifies a good as originating in a territory where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin.
 
 
THE GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS OF GOODS (Registration and Protection) RULES, 2000 Short title and commencement. 1. (1) These rules may be called the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS OF GOODS (Registration and protection) Rules, 200. (2) They shall come into force on the date on which the Act comes into force. 2(1). Definitions.- In this rules, unless the context otherwise requires, a) “Act” means the GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS OF GOODS (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 (XLI of 1999; b) “agent” means a person authorized under Section 76;
